OK guys and gals -please help.

Front view, top, bottom and back.

This is very beautiful ribbed purple glass vase, with high quality gilding and totally insane orange beads -all present and correct! It is blown slightly irregularly, it has a nice finished pontil - and oddly, optically ribbed, about 8 inches tall and - yes it's not an illusion - the front is much lower than the back. It's c1900 at the latest, and I'd guess almost certainly Bohemian/Silesian.

If it wasn't for the optical ribbing I might have guessed Riedel - based on colour and decoration style -but this is a shape I'm sure I've seen before, I just can't place it!

Any help in suggesting origins- much appreciated, I always like to think anything this quality should have name (well better than 'wonky-purple-beaded-monster')

    thanks

      Mike,

That's got to be either 1. Legras/Mt Joye, or 2. Harrach, depending on who you think made the purple and gold cameo pieces. I had one with the same pontil and roman numberal marking that was sold to me as Mt Joye (and the decor is in the Legras book), but Deb Truitt shows a similar example as Harrach (which begs the question - did Harrach produce glass for Legras/Mt Joye? I imagine they did.

Brian has said there are records showing that they did produce glass for Legras.

Or maybe we've been thinking that for so long I've imagined that. wish there was an edit button on this forum. LOL

there are definitely vases that were absolutely made by Harrach that are seen signed by legras/mont joye.

I've been up all night trying to get my hours straightened out. I probably should back away from the keyboard :)

nice one! to me stylistically it looks french, and I suspect as pretty as this vase is it is restored, I think it originally was some hefty piece taller
    7. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 11 years ago
agree on restored. rarely you see a piece cut at the top and pontil at the bottom but when coupled with a wonky angle gotta be thinking cut down

I also think it is cut way too close to the design element - but... the cameo piece I had was also cut flat at the top and had the same polished pontil.

Thanks guys for all them comments
Harrach possibly for Legras makes sense.

But I'm sure the piece is in its original state not cut down later - the cut top and pontil are unusual togehter, but to make this shape it's necessary. The gilding work follows the shape very well -the high flower on the back is a little odd -but I think deliberate

My guess is french -Legras / Monte Joye .
I think the dotty flowers are Mimosa very south of France . In Australia we call them Wattle.

found the shape in the legras book. it is indeed funky lower in the front than the back
    12. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 11 years ago
      not cut down
    13. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 11 years ago
the form is called Trocadero. I thought it was the pattern name but I found it in another pattern and it was also called trocadero
