Wendell Anderson is a remarkable man. He graduated from The University of Minnesota in 1954 where he also played hockey. He was a member of the U.S. Olympic hockey team that won the silver medal in the 1956 Winter Olympics. He then served in the Army for two years and then received his law degree from the University of Minnesota in 1960. He served in the state legislature for twelve years: 1959-71, and then served as governor on Minnesota from 1971-76. He then resigned to be named U.S. Senator when Walter Mondale resigned from the seat to be named Vice President. In 1978 he ran for election to the U.S. Senate in his own right. He was unsuccessful. This sign is from that campaign.
