    (716 items)

It all started 30 years ago when I saw my friend's picnic basket full of red bakelite handle cutlery and old plates and cups - and the tablecloth. My first piece was a red corkscrew (I broke that about 10 yrs ago) and here and there a knife, fork or spoon which I displayed on my magnetic knife board in this 1920's kitchen. Friends saw it and added a few items AND a collection started....

2 cake cutters, 1 spatula, ladle and bottle opener, 11 miscellaneous knives from yellow, brown, red & green, 8 corn holders, 2 fondu? picks, and 37 beautiful matched pieces that probably were white.

3rd pic show a red recipe box - 60's? marked Orange Empire Stores pat pend. Not bakelite but it's wonderful - brittle - if it dropped would break.

4th pic features my green items and another 60's? 2 pc napkin holder? marked Quality Molding Co., Chicago, ILL USA 801 Also brittle but a little tougher than the recipe box.

    Any thoughts? Thank you!

A wonderful collection!!! I love the green-handled cake cutter (such a pretty color!) and think your spatula matches one of my serving spoons exactly! VERY COOL!!

Thank you for your interest in bakelite utensils AnythingObscure - I have a lot more since this post 5 years ago. I don't use these much (except maybe the corkscrew and beer opener LOL) I am very happy to have the set in picture 1.

Eileen - it's okay that not everyone loves bakelite cutlery. In the 60's and 70's a lot of crappy plastic handle items were manufactured and lots of people remember that scratched up stuff. "Yuck, please don't post again that a fondoo fork is bakelite." - me trying to educate sellers. LOL. This is my most complete set, but I have a lot of random red, green, butterscotch, orange (Love) pieces too. I don't use these much, they're wrapped up in vintage tea towels to stop them from getting darker.

Having said all this, Elisabethan recently posted wonderful 2-tone fruit knives. I thought those were 30s-1950's, but our expert Fhrjr2 said the metal mark is from the 70's. I guess it is possible that 2-tone handles waited around for awhile.
