This is the third piece I've found with this type of enameling of Roman? mythological figures. All in opaline glass, all with finely ground and polished pontils and fire-polished rims. This is also the third different color I've seen - I now have documented examples in white, pink, and blue. The quality is really excellent, and it's driving me crazy that I can't find anything on the maker. I still think Bohemian or perhaps English.

That's a large shallow ground and polished dimple.
I'd say Bohemian as the glas does look to have a grey tinge to it . More Alabaster than milk glass IMHO

I was watching this one. I thought about bidding but I've bid too much recently. It looks great with your other pieces. I am glad I did not.

They are gorgeous.
I really have no idea but the large polished pontil mark reminds me of Stevens and Williams or French glass. They don't look as though they are S & W alabaster range but perhaps they did some other opaline pieces? I can't recall coming across any S & W though like this, but that's not saying much and there is a dearth of information on their work as far as I can tell. I haven't a huge experience of such a wide range of glass but the only time I've come across pontil marks polished that wide is on French glass or S & W.

sorry, I've just come across your previous individual posts on the vase and box and just wanted to say that the first thing I thought of when I saw the vase was it reminded me of Legras shapes.

Warren, it drives me crazy as well because of my set. I asked Ms. Truitt once hopping it'd be Haida or Steinschonau production but she didn't think so. I am still hopeful it is a Bohemian production but what do I know... one day we'll figure it out....

PMC case 44 is hosch, palda, hantich and a few other resellers... not a ton of a help with final maker but at least it's something

Hi Warren, - I thought you may be interested in the following information.
Several months back I contacted the Passau Museum as I have a large shallow alabaster bowl with the same enamelled decoration, at the time Passau simply classed my bowl as 'Haida School'. Moving forward, this morning I received a very kind email out of the blue from someone in the UK, who very kindly confirmed that my bowl is actually shown the 1917 Stevens & Williams Catalogue and decorated by Capewell!
Interesting, my bowl is engraved to the base with the ''Patent No. 109201/17''. - This patent specifically relates to a design for a combined 'stand and lamp' which my bowl would have sat upon to be displayed rather than the company that produced my bowl. However, interestingly, the Patent was registered in 1917, which also ties in nicely with the Stevens & Williams catalogue reference!
So S&W they are and decorated by Capewell circa 1917. - The Passau example must have been a red hearing! - Hope this information/update finds you. All the best, Greg
