During a routine trip to a local Catholic Charities, I was asked by the store manager if I would be interesting in purchasing a rug. Immediately upon looking at a number of rugs, I notice that all were of good quality and Persian. One in particular impressed me. That being said, I purchased what I think is a finely woven 19th century silk prayer. I will not pretend to be an expert. But, my experience as such, leads me to the conclusions that it was hand woven with multiple stiches per square inches.
This 19th century silk Persian rug influenced design is a brightly colored formalized pattern of leaves, flowers and birds against a cream background.
Nice rug! How do you date it to 19th century vs. modern?

There are various types of carpets and or rugs from serveral regions of the middle east. The can be classified by the different regions. For the most part, they are referred to as persian rugs. Persian rugs are catogorized by the different designs and or patterns as related to the various tribes, regions, cities and or towns. The number of knots per inch and the age determine the value. And the age is determined by the various colors that were used. Because certain colors are associated with dyes that were not available for use before periods in time. Also, the materials used, be it wool or silk.
