My father in law bought this watch in 1955 from a railroad engineers wife. The gentleman had reciently died. He had 2 watches which I am told was the norm due to the urgency of being on time. I am trying to find out exactly what vintage it is. It has a broken spring. Who should I have fix it? Should the face be polished or not? What is the value for insurance purposes?
I would like to put it back in working order and return it to him. He is in his eighties and it would mean a great deal to him.

You need to unscrew the case back so you can see the movement (guts) of the watch. There you'll find a serial number and with that you can get all the info you need online. Just google Hamilton serial number. From what I can tell looking at the case you do have a railroad watch. The case appears to be a "bar over crown" railroad style case. Once you open the watch take a picture of the movement and post it here. I'd love to see it!

I am looking for my grandfather's railroad pocket watch. It was given to him by the railroad around 1940. It has his name inscribed on the inside of the watch. His name was William Copeland. Any information anyone can give me would be helpful. Thank you, Frances cabral
