Hand-painted Imperial Bavarian Remembrance Stein that is made of salt glazed pottery rather than the normal porcelain. This half-liter stein is named to Unteroffizier (Sergeant) Gustav Geiß, who was a member of the 3. Infantry Regiment 'Prinz Carl von Bayern', Augsburg 1902-1904. Stein features color scenes of the unit in battle and men at rest on one side, and images of leave-taking and homecoming on the other side. The center image of the piece features a small cartouche with a portrait of Prince Carl, with a scene shot of a castle of sorts - most likely a main landmark of the hometown, and a few men in the field, led by the officer with his sword drawn.  A full roster can be found on both sides of the handle, and the maker's name and address is printed on the rim near the handle. Pewter lid has Bavarian soldier and lion on the top with crowned Bavarian lion thumblift. Height of the piece is about 11.5 inches tall.  Excellent condition with no damage or other problems, and the details on this piece are excellent. There is so much structural detail that can be felt as well as seen, both in the paintings and the detailed designs on the handle, in the stone ware, and the pewter lid.
