This pair of earrings belonged to my mother. Can someone give me some information on them? I always remember Mom having them but I don't know how old they are. I think they are pre 1950s and the metal appears to be brass(?) Would also like to know, how to safely clean them. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to CW! Please look very very closely for any markings here. Last night I was looking at very similar screw back earrings. If I didn't use a magnifying glass I would have missed the marking "SILVER MEXICO". Turns out they are actually silver, and tarnished silver does sometimes look like brass. I used a soft silver polish and the look beautiful.

It took some effort but after wearing 2 pairs of glasses and using a magnifying glass -which will soon be upgraded- I could read, "Made in Western Germany" I still couldn't determine the metal used.

Made in Western Germany, so that means its made between 1949 and the fall of the German wall in 1990.

It's probably closer to 1949. She has had them as long as I can remember; I was born in 1955.
