When I turned 30 I decided to treat myself to a gold ring - but I didn't find the right one until I was 35 at an antique mall in El Cajon, CA. The stone is probably onyx? faceted - approximately .75"x.5" It's size 6.5 - and large enough that the setting sits across finger. I prefer large settings - guess I'm not very dainty. I think this is from the 50's - and is marked 14k inside. In the 1940's beautiful swirls and bows in the roccoco style were popular - and that style continues. It also looks Victorian but the marks inside look too new (and so tiny I can't make it out. Where's my loupe???) If anyone has more info - please post.

I can't remember what my 40th present was. Might have been my fab computer, etc. Surely I bought a piece of bling too!

Love gifts to self. I think we should have a new catagory for it.
Beautiful ring, do you wear it often?

In my country we say:"Take care of yourself, often others don!" So spoil yourself if possible. Nice ring!

I am always treating myself with baubles and I think all of us should! I believe this was made around 1900's or 1920's the latest. The saw tooth edging and the mounting gives it away. The beautiful scrolling is wonderful and its Edwardian, with a little Deco flair. Great cut stone! I hope this helps! If I were to sell it I would label it Antique Edwardian.

Thanks AmberRose - I LOVE your idea for new category "Gifts to Self". Wouldn't that be fun to see what is posted? Could be anything and everything. I don't wear it very often. Guess probably because I don't have much gold - as you've seen I'm more of the ethnic, sterling and bakelite junkie.

Thank you Agram.m - important to remember to enjoy our passion and indulge when possible!

Thank you Moonstonelover21 - it is in a very nice quality setting w/the sawtooth and nice mount. When I locate my loupe I will read the mark. Weren't the old Edwardian or Victorian marks usually just simple initials or symbols? This one appears to be script. Thank you for loving it!

Not all the time...depending on the Country or origin. I have seen very clean and easy to read marks on lovely pieces that were hardly worn. I would doubt myself and go to the store to ask..and they would confirm that indeed it was older than the hallmarked looked.

Thank you Moonstone - haven't found my loupe yet. Thank you for the comment will reply when I find out more. Entertained young 20-yr olds this week. I am EXHAUSTED! They didn't care about any of my treasures....oh well - all the more for those of us who do care.

Hi Ken! Hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday weekend. This time I stuck close to home but had a bbq and fireworks at the beach. It was very nice even if quieter than usual. I don't post w/my phone, but my computer is on 24/7 so that's why all of a sudden I'm paying attention. Thank you!

Keep looking my friend! I bought this one at an antique mall 5 years ago, it's about 3"x1.5". I think I paid $10, but I knew that was a good price and recently searching online - they aren't cheap - maybe around $30? I have a few of the smaller 1.5" bakelite and celluloid ring boxes too. Even these are hard to find online at a decent prices. Just keep looking. You are sure to find something like this and then decide what you want to pay. I prefer to buy face to face but if I want to expand my collections I go online. Thanks for loving this beauty!

I'm late to the party here, but WHOLLY applaud the idea of a new "gifts to myself" category -- CW Admin friends, is that a possibility at all????
