    My neighbor gave me this thing. I have been trying to find out what it is for the last few months. I have a flower pot sitting in it. It seems to be cast aluminum. Anyone have any ideas?

      Could you post a picture of the bottom?

      I have had these before, I think that it is probably cast iron ( you can test it with a magnet, if the magnet sticks it 's iron, if not then probably aluminum). If it's iron, it probably dates to around 1900, and held a hot water tank.
