This vase immediately caught my eye because of its blue inclussions and the big long bubbles... it really is -at least for me- an unusual decoration for a Strömbergshyttan vase, as all the others I have got show plain colours.

    It is signed Strömberg B894.

As it usually hapens with the organic shaped Strombergshyttan glass items, one's never quite sure of who designed it: was it Asta Strömberg or maybe Gunar Nylund? But thanks to rebessin its design has been attributed to Gunnar Nylund, although the technique was created by Asta Strömberg. Please read rebessin comment.

Hi austrohungaro! Nice B 894 you have got! The blue color bubbles comes from the underlay "post", which I think (?) was dipped in a special detergent powder which reacted with the hot glass. It was an idea from Asta Stromberg what I know, who did a "Special Collection" in small series and even som unique pieces in this underlay bubble technique. But the model B894 is a design by Gunnar Nylund. Strombergshyttan also made some of his models in the blue bubble underlay thechnique, and B894 was one of them. Asta Stromberg herself have, on a request from my uncle, attributed the miniatures of B894, B930 and B937 to Gunnar Nylund. So there is no doubt about that.

Thanks so much, rebessin!!! Good to know it's a design by Nylund's BUT even better to know about the technique and it was Asta Strömberg who had the idea about it. This is a great lesson on glass!!! Thanks so much for your incredibly helpful comment!!!

By the way, do you know the year of the design? and when this technique was created?
    5. rebessin rebessin, 11 years ago
I think this special underlay technique was created about 1970 - 1972? My brother worked in Strombergshyttan from about 1970, an he told me that they bagan to use it in the time he started up. In my catalog from 1972, there are only one vase pictured, that have this special underlay with bubbles. It's B 1134 and the underlay code for the bluish bubble technique is x 82. I think your B894 is of production later than 1972, because in this catalog X 82 is not available for that model. I have a bowl from Asta Strombergs "Special Collection" with the same technique and what I remember it was produced about 1970-75. Unfortunately, the only signed "Strombergshyttan Asta Stromberg Special Collection" and without year. But I saw Asta down in the factory one time when I worked there (about 1975), she instructed the glassblowers for producing some of the pieces in the special series.

Edit: They also did some models in similar bubble technique, but with golden yellow and white color instead of bluish in the underlay.
