This brooch is 2"-3/8"x1"-1/2" with 24 amethyst faceted 8x6 cm rectangle glass? stones set w/14 tiny 2 cm round amethyst glass stones. The rectangle stones are nicely faceted w/point facet on back side as well - makes the item catch the light and shine. Some of the tiny round stones are missing.
I think this is from Czechoslovakia or Bohemia 1900-1930. I found it at the Saint Vincent DePaul thrift store in Omaha in 1982 (we called it patron saint of used clothing) during my lunch half-hour. I had already spent money on lunch and GASP - saw this and hurried to the ATM for money to buy it. I remember I was late getting back to work that day.
What a nice brooch! I also think its 20's or thirties. Looks like czech glass to me, but then again, I'm no expert.
And I dont even know for sure with my own stuff. Dont you have to look at the edges of the stones? If they are a bit 'rounded' it should be glass.
I'll post some brooches that look familiar to yours, but not as nice.
Mary- I love the amethyst glass, too. Well worth a tardy return to work!
This is a beauty!
How nice of you Maureen to bring this lovely back to the top!
Maureen - thank you for your comment. The thrift stores in Omaha in the early 80's - oh so nice. I'll have to dig it out and wear it soon.
Eileen - yes, it's a beauty, thank you!
Thank you Newtimes for your long ago comment and thanks friends for your loves!
