This knife is very large, 18 inches long. The handle is 6 and 1/2 inches long and up to an 1 and 7/8 in width. The ship on the handle is a two masted schooner, which was commonly used in the 2nd half of the 19th century. Can't make out the letters or numbers on the blade which looks to be crudely hammered out by a blacksmith. Don't know any of it's history. Any information would be appreciated..... Just discovered that the snake on a staff or stick is probably a depiction of the "Staff of Aesulapius" an older medical symbol.

Kangaroo or wallaby, turtle, palm tree and that snake too suggest Australia and the South Pacific. I love it!

My wife took one look at the snake on the stick on the handle and said it was a medical symbol. Sure enough when I researched it on Google, it looks like a representation of the "Staff of Aesulapius" an older and more wide spread symbol of the medical profession.
