Rescued this Taylor trunk yesterday from life as a plant stand...going to use it as a tack trunk in my new barn. It is in near perfect, original condition inside and out. Only thing missing is they key! The paper certificate inside says it was made in January 1908. I cleaned it w/Murphy's Oil Soap and bit of steel wool last night - with all of the dirt gone, it looks beautiful. Doesn't seem to need more than that for now, though, any tips on preserving it's wonderful condition would be appreciated.

Does anyone know if it's possible to find a key that would fit this lock? The number stamped on it is "C449". Thanks!

Beautiful example of a Taylor trunk. I usually tung oil my wood slats for a little extra protection. Really nice find -- a Taylor trunk is still on my list...I have yet to see one in my area after three years of looking.

Thank you for the tip! I love this trunk...couldn't believe my luck when I found it. I've filled it w/all if my horse stuff and it has a prime spot in the new tack room. Everyone admires it :) Unbelieveably, it was only $50.

That is one I am searching for too. Right on comment about the price. Value, which is so often a question, is really personal. Thanks for the showing. Gives me hope that I may find one yet.

About a key. There is a local locksmith in my area who is also interested in antique locks, often on trunks. If I bring him the trunk he fixes the lock and finds a key for it for about $20. There must be more like him around. Good luck.

That's a good suggestion about the locksmith - I will check around and see if I can find someone! And good luck with your search too :)

Try Michael at Island Trunks for the key you need.
