I went through the list of Danish Silversmiths and was able to find something similar to the initial stamped on the base of this item. The list showed JThS but the mark on this item is a J with a th inter-twined and a separate S. I imagine it could be the mark of Jorgen Th Steffenson of Randers, Denmark in 1972-1976.
I am also really wondering about the use of this item; was it a playing Card holder, a traveling Card Holder or a Cigarette case. Also, what is the "facing commas" mark near the initials. It measures 3 5/8" long, 2 1/4" wide by 1" thick, opens at the top and has a hammered silver finish on the back.

Hi valentino97! I don't know the size of matches that would fit in this holder but maybe in Denmark their matches come in bigger size boxes. It's possible, since the sides are open and would reveal the striker section on boxes of matches. Thank you for your input and thank you vetraio50 and mustangtony for the Love. RER (BOB)

Hi there... I'm desperately searching for the same answer! I have the hallmarks JHS something Denmark - the H is the same as the one pictured, however I assumed the S was a 5? There is also an initial/digit after the S or 5 that is so rubbed I can't read it!!

Hi there just had a look - the "something" I mentioned is the two commas mark! Just faded! I also thought the Randers or J.H.& J. Hoffmann & Son?
Hi Zoe! The H has a small tail on it that looks like an inter-twinned "th" so that's why I figured JorgenTH Steffenson. BOB

His father was J. P. Steffensen. In 1919 J. P. Steffensen took over the firm of Hans Jensen & Co.. a wholesale gold and silver business in Århus that supplied Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway.
J. P. Steffensen had two sons Knud Th. Steffensen (b. 1908) & Jørgen Th. Steffensen (b. 1910). After his death in 1949 his widow took over and the two sons became managers in the company. In 1934 the family bought out a manufacturing business in Randers not far from Århus that specialised in modern manufacturing methods for silver and silverplate jewelry.

My thought is that the "facing commas" mark is an 'S' for the Steffensen family firm. The 'JThS' suggests a time period.

look closely near the dog it should say denmark or there will be a fish symbol the pattern is called cracker barrel he made combs brushes mirrors etc. mines only silver plate as many of his items where date roughly 1927 era
I have one of these with a matching lighter. I can confirm that it is a cigarette case as I remember it in use by my grandmother when I was a child. I'm curious if you ever found out anything else about yours or if you still have it. My silver stamp on the bottom is quite different than yours which seems odd to me since everything else is identical. I am brand new to this site and haven't yet figured out how to upload pictures.

I just found a couple of candlesticks with the same hallmark. Just wondering if anyone else has information on the Jorgen Th Steffenson of Randers, Denmark candlesticks. They are eight inches high, three inches square at base with ornate design.
