I'm trying to confirm and identify this pitcher which is marked "Nippon", as being Noritake. I cannot identify the design and would like to further identify the piece as best I can. The hand painted scene shows a parlor view with a man holding his hat while watching a woman fixing her hair while looking into a tall mirror. The reverse scene shows a chair under a framed painting. The figures on the pitcher appear to have oriental features and they are wearing possibly western style formal attire. The height of the piece is 4 1/2". Thanks

Thanks much Jim. Ok, it's confirmed Noritake; The painted scene however appears to be a more difficult nut to crack. I'll touch base with the Morimura Bros. website next to further identify the piece as to subject matter.

Did you repost this? Did you try the Noritake Collectors guild? I thought I posted a link for you

This pattern appears to be very rare, and may even have been part of a commissioned set. You really need an Noritake expert to help identify it.

Yes Mary, thanks. The Backstamp identifies it as Noritake as you said, and I am sending a photo of the painted vignette to the Collectors Guild in an attempt to identify the scene further. I have seen Japanese woodblock prints, etc. of western figures similar to this but I'm not familiar with Noritake patterns, or with Nippon for that matter. This piece just appeared unusual so I've kept it for years and just took it out of the cupboard to try and figure it out.
