This ring is of the end of the 19th begin 20th century. Is is a very beautiful ring with a wonderful Amethyst in a wonderful Sterling silver setting with pearls (two different seizes, little pearls and seed pearls).
This ring was made in Germany and I wear it with a lot of pleasure as you will understand. The more it was a present of a dear friend who passed away already a lot of years ago. A very good rememberence!

A very beautiful ring and it is wonderful when we can connect someone that we are fond of to an object - I have plants that were given to me by dear friends and they always remind me of that person.

Absolutely lovely! I love silver and I love amethysts. Your ring got both plus a story. I have a question for you, Agram.m: How can you tell that it really is an amethyst? I have some old pieces, and I am sure they are amethysts, but recently I found a 925 pendant with a purple stone and somehow it does not look like a natural amethyst. It doesn't look like glass but seems just too perfect to be an amethyst. Is there a quick answer to my question? Thanks a lot :)

Freiheit, The answer is not so simple. That's what I can say about it:
First, when glass scratched, easily get scarred. Real Amethyst is harder and will not scratch as easily.
Secondly, a fake amethyst gemstone can be recognized with its clarity and price. Real amethysts are deep rich purple, and immaculate. On the other hand, price of a usual amethyst stone is somewhere around $20. If the vendor is selling a stone for extremely less, you have a reason to suspect that the gemstone is nothing but fake.

Thirdly, a fake amethyst will have no color schemes or zoning. It will be absolutely purple in shade, with no different hues. On the other hand, a real amethyst will either be a combination of purple-white or purple-blue.

Lastly, a synthetic or lab-created amethyst is 100 per cent crystal clear, and does not include any, any impurities. Well, astonishing as it may sound, real amethyst does contain a few impurities. But that's what makes it real!

Thanks for your nice comment and loving, hoping to hear you soon!

Thank you so much, Agram.m, to take the time to answer my question. I learned a lot! I guess I have to get myself a good magnifying glass :) So far I have been using my grandmother's but I guess there are limitations.
Have a great weekend and a wonderful Mother's Day! (Do you celebrate Mother's Day at the same time?)
