Anyone have information on my hubby's favorite Indians. Value or history? The appear to be identical but facing opposite directions. The appear to be wooden flat on one side and carved on the painted side. Some the paint chipping seems to almost have a plaster quality to it.

How tall are they? I'm just guessing at 1 mtre. Solid wood & not ply? Not your usual cigar store indian but don't have those subtle Oriental features that modern Oriental fakes have. Can you guess at age or had them looked at by an expert?

They are wood and yes about 1 meter. I have not had them looked at by an expert, but but have been told they are probably from the 30's and have a gesso (?) application that was probably done when they were carved.

I imagine the old cigar store indians were harder & more expensive to make & probably many stores didn't have room for them, so these would be more practical and fewer would have survived. I would like to hear more from out armchair experts as I just don't know.
