    This is really pretty , I got this for 5 bucks today. I do not know what it is . If anyone knows please comment. It has some marks with numbers under the base .

      Hi Songwriter53! I have seen quite a few of these covered pans and they were actually used to empty ashtrays in, after a party....sort of a safety pan to prevent live ashes from being thrown in the garbage can and starting a fire. RER (BOB)

      I think the mark is of an importer of Japanese Wares to the US. Certainly made in Japan. RER (BOB)

      Lou-, those are called "silent butlers". I see no indication of size & size matters you know. Or actually the size of the container does.

      It was made by Arnart creations of Japan. What a beautiful design:)
