The story goes that this was my Great Grandfathers treasures from China. He was a great philanthropist and built Museums and Libraries in Japan. He was intrigued by Asian Culture and bought many fine pieces from China. This was bought in the 1800's and during WW2 it fell during the bombings. So it was on an Ivory post that was pegged into the Ivory stand. I hope you like this piece!!!

This is an ivory 'mystery ball.' The mystery is in the ability to carve out layers of inner spheres. I have one with 14 layers. If you're careful, you should be able to line up the inner layers and count the number. They are still made today and I have no idea how it's done. The largest I've ever seen was about 8" in diameter.
