Found an amazing photo album at local estate filled with over 30 CDV and Cabinet Cards all from the civil war era period of present day Quebec Canada. Some of them depict a military fort with cannons and others high society people. One of the photos with the gentlemen in the strange hat and snow scene is done and stamped on the back Photographer to the Queen Notman Montreal. Most of the Others are done by Ellisson and Co. 39 John St Quebec. Also famous photos of landmarks like the one in the photo. Does anyone know the role of the Canada in the Civil War Era? Any info or insight would help.

Look like Columbiad cannons in the fort but can't tell if they are "pop-up" guns without turning my pc upside-down . Maybe after a few beers I won't have to turn anything.

Great pictures, even better when I turned them to get a better look! :-)
Canada did not become a country until 1867, as a British Colony it was neutral. However when you share a coastline & a border with a country in the midst of a civil war, it's hard not to get drawn into the conflict.

Of particular interest is the St. Albans Raid, due to it's proximity to Montreal.

I'm looking closer at some of the other photos as well and it looks like the la Citadelle in Quebec City that would be nice I imagine these early photos would be great in a historical sense to the city.
