I don't know the exact date - I would say mid to late 1950's. Left green enamel on copper marked Matisse and the other is marked Renoir. Not one chip on these earrings and bracelet. I believe this design and am looking for the red enamel. I rarely find "sets" and sometimes I stand there in a daze..."do I have a matching piece to this? should I buy it?..."

Renoir was a California company started in 1946 by Jerry Fels, Curt Freiler and Nat Zausner. A very good research source is the book "Copper Art Jewelry, a different lustre" by Matthew Burkholz and Linda Lichtenberg Kaplan.

I wear all 3 together. Also have plain copper Renoir earclips that match.

Thank you Sean, Lee, Amber, vetraio50 and DrFluffy for your love and comments. I was bidding on a matching item on ebay tonight so I thought I would stay in the copper mood and share what I have.

There's a lot of it here. I used to think it was dimestore jewelry, but I read that it was never that cheap and offered in department stores, boutiques and jewelry stores. Then in the 60's-70's it wasn't popular so there was a lot to be found in thrift stores. My collection started when a friend found over 20 pr of clip earrings for .25 each and my FIRST REBAJES item....so I started collecting copper.

Copper jewelry is beautiful and medicinal..both my Father and Brother wore copper chain link bracelets ( cuffs) on both wrists. ( being hard working commercial fisherman) The copper helped immensely from the pain of very cold and wet work ....
I love the green set, but the bracelet without the enamel is my favorite!

Thanks Eileen for your nice comment looking at these copper oldies again. I have never seen working men with copper bracelets - I also had Dad and brothers probably same timeframe as your family. They were so conservative and wore no jewelry at all. LOL They complained about aches and pains, but they weren't open to alternatives.

These Espana enamel items are harder to find now. I'm on the hunt for red. The style is so timeless. I wear all 3 bracelets same time but rarely the clip earrings.
