    return voyage after visiting brother in nelson city since may 5th 1973
    depart auckland harbour on 30th july arrived southampton on 26th august 1973-photos of ships top deck in storm, 3 days out of miami.

      Hello Michaeln544, I was on that same voyage from Aukland to Miami in 1973 (we departed Aukland Harbor on July 29). It is fascinating to see your photographs of that voyage, and if you have more, I would like to see them.

      Thanks for your comment- see also you tube were I made a slide show of the hurricane that hit the boat just as we left Miami it shows photographs of the waves coming over the the decks see you tube - 1973 ss Australis hurricane havoc.

      Thank you, that looks terrible- you must have been very sick during that hurricane! I'm glad I got off in Muami????

      Hi again - well actually I got used to the rough voyage from Southampton to Auckland so I had overcome sea sickness and it never bothered me but I remember that quite a few people were in fact they had sick bags tied to the handrails of the stairs up and down the ship at about every 15 feet intervals

      Hi again kenoyergirl- apparently I also missed a hot summer in the uk as I left in the April and returned end of August and it was there winter in New Zealand which is opposite seasons to us in the uk -- it reached 31 degrees in the September also of 1973 like this year way above normal of 17 degrees.
