I inherited this sword when my grandmother passed away in the mid nineties. My father says that his dad brought it back to the US from Nuremburg Germany in 1945 at the end of WWII. Apparently an order came down from headquarters to destroy all German weapons in my grandfathers area. This also included a museum that had lots of antique arms. My grandfather in what was the only disobedient act of his military career felt that is was pretty silly to destroy historical artifacts so he saved this sword and several antique shotguns and sent them home. Any idea as to the value of the sword? It has a copper hilt and the blade is rusted.
