This appears to be a depression glass diamond pattern salt shaker. There are eight of them altogetherr - all identical - except for the number at the bottom (See below)

The interesting thing about this particular shaker is that on the bottom it reads as follows:

    PAT.
    APPLD FOR
    MADE IN
    USA
    4

Since I can not find anything unique about this shaker - I am not sure why anyone would apply for a patent - unless it is the pyramid shape.

For example the top seems to be made of a cheap metal - possible aluminum. Maybe it is the first use of an aluminum top.

It is for this reason I think the shaker is either an antique or a vintage shaker.

If anyone has any information about this little cutie - I would appreciate learning more about it.

I have looked at over 1,200 shakers - and other than it is clear - and is potentially a depression era Diamond pattern - I can find nothing.

    Thanks for looking

I found several of these for sale on Ebay - the major difference is some list them as Antique others as Vintage. The ones on Ebay also have sterling silver lids.

The first mandated use of Made in USA was in 1914 - so not sure when these where made - the pattern is described at Diamond with Zipper.

I can not find this listed any where as a Depression Era Glass pattern.

And know one seems to know when or by whom they were manufactured

The apparently not cut glass - just compressed glass. So nothing special about them other than they are probably antique or nearing antique status..

If any one can supply more information or validate/correct what I think I know that will be greatly appreciated.
