This is engraved with my great-grandfather's name and the date 1890. I'd love to know more about it. He was from England. Are these steins common and why the different countries - MUNCHEN, ATHEN, BAVARIA and whether its of any value...not that I'd sell it.

This is a stoneware beer stein made by Villeroy & Boch at their Mettlach, Germany factory. It honors Munich which is in the state of Bavaria. Munich was once called the Athens of Isar (the river that runs through Munich). In mint condition the price range is $800 to $1,000 depending on where you sell it and what the commissions are.
