This is one of my favorite of the 27 murals in the Rincon Center in San Francisco. It shows quite possibly one of the prettiest bridges in the world being built. The whole mural series was a product of the WPA during the New Deal and was done by Russian artist Anton Refregier.
This is the 25th mural. Its description is below.
25. Building the Golden Gate: "Construction of the Golden Gate Bridge was begun in 1933 and completed in 1937. At that time, the 4,200 foot span was the longest in the world. The towers are 746 feet high; ship clearance underneath the roadway is 220 feet. The chief engineer, Jospeh Strauss, designed and built over 400 bridges during his lifetime. The Golden Gate Bridge is considered his masterpiece."
