i just saw a photo of this and someone told me it was new, made to look old...i disagree. what do you think?

can anyone tell me the style or type of this cabinet? an approximate year as well would be great!
Looks like it once was a French Provincial style, to which someone has added a piece of wood on the top, and tried to distress the original table(?). I'd be extremely distressed if I were it. Couldn't hazard a guess as to the age.
thanx Gillian, I know the distressing is awful. I just had never seen a FP sewing machine table, it seems so fancy for a utilitirian item!
Do you think it is a sewing machine cabinet???
