I am hoping someone might be able to educate me on this item. It is about 6"x8" and is hinged at the back. The Native American figure seems to be some sort of paper attached to some sort of textile attaced to the wooden part. Anyone seen something like this before?

I have one similar to this but much larger. The painting makes no sense, other than maybe some sort of way to hide maybe something between the front and what seems to be false back panaling for whatever reasons. Mine also has nails that are very carefully lined up with pencil marks and scetching using sophisticated drafting tools outlining various parts of the frame as if there is some formula of taking the frame apart in a certain way or will otherwise destroy something hidden between the front and back panals. The painting on the front is on a hard piece of panal or wood slightly raised outward with a very carefully made frame. Why would a painting on a board need a backing that makes it look like a regular backing when there is no need for a backing since the oil painting is on a board and not canvas? Very odd, so I'm afraid to take it apart to find out if there is some map or something hidden as I mentioned.

      Thanks for sharing this.
