This was a neat-looking piece of test equipment I brought to the 2007 San Jose Telephone Collectors Intl show. I bought it at Alameda (antiques fair), and realized it needed to find a home with someone (an engineer) who would appreciate it more long-term.
Probably from the teens, used for testing outside cabling. I've seen a bunch of these test sets, and the coolest thing about them (if you're not an engineer) is the boxes that house them. Western Electric constructed them incredibly well, with really high quality wood, amazing dovetailed joints, built like a - well, you know.
p.s. note my Canada Dry box in the background.
