Does the label say F.B. Guild Inc. Lake Placid, New York? Its kinda blurry when I enlarge it.
The bookend looks like one made by Bradley and Hubbard, the sticker of Lake Placid probably is where it may have been bought originally. B & H were the largest manufacturers of bookends anywhere I believe. Most are unmarked but a fair bit is known about the manufacturers. This is very much in their style, and the subject matter is somewhat generic with this book worm. !~Phil.
yes, it says B.F.Guild Inc. My cousin has the other half and we vowed not to sell them but I told her I would inquire about them. Any ideas on cost??
You mean F.B not B.F. right?? The only thing I could find on the name and Lake Placid was that F.B. Guild was the Treasurer of the Lake Placid Board of Trade in 1918 and the Treasurer of the Adirondack Camp and trail Club in Lake Placid in 1920. Apparently F.B. Guild, Inc. was a contractor or builder of some sort. Maybe he just stuck some of his company stickers on the bookends in his office sort of like he was promoting himself sitting at his desk. (I have a Chiquita banana sticker on my toolbox but that doesnt mean my tools were made by Chiquita., LOL). Try checking what P.D.A.M. commented above with the Bradley and Hubbard name.
Probably like mustardtony says it was a trade label and B&H was the largest bookend maker ever, likely hundreds of different ones, there are books with this in and I have a copy of the book on bookends and prices. Phil.
Yes, I ment F.B....lol... sorry!!!
