Got this poster today. It is in pretty decent shape. 7/10 all day long. Anyone have any info about the old Lee Bros circus? I know they existed sometime around the 30's or 40's. I would love to know more about the history of this circus but try as I might, the info online is limited. Anyone know what the value as is vs restored might be?

Hi there! This was my fathers circus Robert (Bob) Atterbury, if you would like more info check out facebook and look up my half brother Joesph Atterbury and he'd be happy to share info with you.Hope this helps some.May all your days be circus days......
Over the years there were several Lee Bros. Circuses. The first circus of this title (owned by Frank, Thomas and Charles Lee) went on the road in 1899 and lasted until 1902. From 1925 until 1934 George Christy also operated this title, and as mentioned above Bob Atterbury had a Lee Bros show from 1942-49. The last incarnations were in 1951 and 1957. This particular artwork does date from the late 1940s. While posters from this vintage are not particularly scarce and probably worth no more than $50 to an advanced collector, it is a great image and if you enjoy it, the value and enjoyment that it gives can be priceless.
Thank you both for the information. I am a little late checking back on this but que sera sera. Anna, there were a few Robert Atterburys on facebook and wasn't sure which would be your brother. Chris, I am about to post another Lee Bros. poster I recently acquired as well as some letterheads. I would love to know if they were all form the same circus or not. Thanks again to you both!
