i got this from an 80 something year old man who told me that his dad bought this gun new and thats what kept food on the table. it looks like it was browned instead of blued. the only serial number which is a very low 350 is stamped freehand on the bottom of the receiver behind the trigger guard. i would really like to know a little of it's history and age if anyone can help.
Mass Arms Co. started in 1849 and went bankrupt in 1930. They made mostly cap and ball handguns and rifles, but did make some shotguns.
J. Stevens Arms & Tool Company made shotguns for Blish, Mizet and Siliman Hardware Company in Achison, Kansas. Your shotgun is most likely one of these, as it looks like a stevens shotgun.
That 350 number may not be a serial number. Companies were not legally required to assign serial numbers to guns until 1968.
Gun value is very subjective and regional. In my area, near Chicago, a gun like yours would probably be worth $50 to $150. In reality, something is only worth what another person is willing to pay fo it.
