I would like to know more about this porcelain doll that was given to me by my uncle. I believe it is Japanese. Also I would like to know what the plaque says and who it is signed by.

Me too! I found two dolls with the same plaque but they are not in there glass cases. Are they vintage Japanese dolls?

From what I tell from the photos this doll isn't particulary old. It's for Boys Day on May 5 (now known as Children's Day). Girls day is March 3. For each of these special dates, beautiful displays of these fancy dolls will be set up in homes across Japan honoring the little girls or boys of the family. This doll seems to be a young samurai in training with his 2 swords. What a nice gift from your uncle!
