Cleaning house recently, I came across this rather odd pair of scissors. I've never seen such long blades on such a small handle! They are 11 1/2" long, the blade is 7 1/4" to the screw. Handle is only about 2 1/4" wide at the outside. I can't remember where I got them; probably from a client. There is a delicate pattern carved into the handle on both sides - looks like ribbons and roses. The handles were once gold, but almost all the gold has worn off, only traces left in some of the indentations. At the top of the blade just above the screw is engraved J.A. HENCKELS and SOLINGEN. There is no date. Was wondering if anyone out there could tell me if these scissors had a specific purpose and approximately how old they are?
