This book is the 1953-1954 Old hard cover Red book for coin collectors, 6th edition by R.S. Yeoman. Even in the paper back ones each year they have a listing of what each book is worth. Well of course the older ones are worth more. Issue price for this book was 1.50. Worth in this condition, anywere between 75 to 125 today! Save your books & pass them down to your kids. They Will thank U someday! My Dad has passed on But>>>Thanks Dad!
Sorry, but that book isn't worth more than a couple of dollars. Doesn't mean that you shouldn't use and enjoy old books, though.

Common sense. Ebay. abe.com. Just because someone has something listed for a fixed price, doesn't mean that it's automatically worth that much. Any item is only worth as much as another is willing to pay for it.
I've seen these at estate sales and thrift stores on a regular basis. I guess if they're worth that much I should snatch 'em up and sell them.
I agree on Common sense, but I can't please everybody all the time eather. That is just what the Red Book price said it's worth. If I sold this book for 5.00, & the buyer turns around & sell's it for 8.00, good for him. Thats why they publish price books. Hmmmm, maybe I'll put it the goodwill box come Monday!

well lloyd you are right on one thing, its only worth what someone will pay you for it. that being said where would we be without price guides? allot of them go off actual auction prices. i have a first edition red book the new book says $1,500 in good shape! and mine looks like its new, a few years ago i talked to a coin shop in a different state he offered me $400 without even seeing it. i paid .50 i never see them for sale especially in this shape! so whats it worth? .50? $400? $1,500? maybe with the price of silver going up, the coin collectors might get back in to it and so on! just a thought
and Lloyd the only ones that list more than a couple bucks are the older ones or the special editions the 60,70,80 are the ones you will find easily, try to find a old one
If you guys want a really valuable book, keep your eyes peeled for old Alcoholics Anonymous handbooks from the 1940's-1950's and up. I'm seen them go for 1,000 dollars and up on ebay on a regular basis. Why are they so valuable? No idea whatsoever...
Lloyd as i said before i agree! its only worth what someone will pay you for it. but as a antiquarian book collector i would think you have done some more research than just Ebay! tell me your not basing all this because you have never seen any sell. looking at page 408 in the 2010 red book, talking about past issues and commemorative s HAVE SOLD! for $100 to $700 and the older ones for more. now as a book guy i am wondering if you could enlighten me as how many copies of a first edition to make it rare or valuable ? now keep in mind the red book is a reference book and the serious collectors use them all the time. how else would you find out what your favorite coin was worth 60 years ago? have you ever read this book? go to www Jims coin world - out of Wisconsin and check out the prices they have SOLD!! these books for! do a little more reading on it! and remember there was life before ebay.. have a nice day Lloyd
