Asian Vases (Marble)

These are a pair of vases I purchased at an Antique store for $5 (for the pair). They appear to have some form of Asian symbols on them, and they are quite heavy (weighing apprx 2bls each). They look and feel like they could be made out of marble. However, they have no inscription or engraving on them anywhere that I can see. I would love to know where and why they were made and what the symbols on them mean.
