This is a brief history of my father. Dad was by all accounts a self-made man. Everything he obtained he worked for, and worked hard. At 16 He started working as a car washer then a sander and masker in a local body shop eventually being promoted to shop manager by age 20. This is when he applied for and was hired by Travelers Insurance Company as a claims adjuster. He worked for the company for over 35 years, all the while receiving promotion after promotion. During these years he quietly built a respectable stock portfolio. Retiring from Travelers, he started his own successful consulting firm. Dad died January 19, 1997 after fighting bladder and lung cancer. He was a good man, not quick to use the word “love” but there was always a hot meal on the table, a roof over our heads and warm clothing on our backs. That was how he showed love. Love you dad

TRAVELERS INSURANCE COMPANY- 100 YEARS
The Travelers will be celebrating their 150 Year Anniversary in the next two years.

The Travelers Insurance Company was founded in 1864. That year, it sold the first accident insurance in the United States and, in 1865 it began selling life insurance, thus becoming the first company in the country to offer more than one type of insurance.

This bronze medal/medallion is marked Medallic Art Co. and measures approximately 2.5” in diameter. It has the wording “The Travelers 100th Anniversary April 1, 1864” on the front side. The back side shows Travelers’ Home Office building and the wording “A Century of Insurance Protection” along with the dates 1864-1964.

This mark/medallion is in good condition and would make an excellent addition to a collection of insurance memorabilia or a great gift for an insurance agent/broker or Travelers employee/retiree, along with a general collection of medallions.
