    Hi Folks,

I just purchased this vintage cigar lighter. It's hard to tell in the photos, but the base is bakelite (or a similar material) and has beautiful multi-colored marbled or swirl pattern on it. There are greens, reds, black, and browns all mixed together.

The top seems to be stamped tin with the heating element under a cap that is held on via three crimps in its side.

The bottom is marked "CIRCLE E MFG. CO" "TRENTON, NJ".

    Can anyone identify it?

It works nicely via the plunger button on the side and has approx. a 5ft long cloth covered cord with a button plug. The man I purchased it from said that his grandfather used it.

I would like to replace the cord as it has been cut and mended several times. The inside of the base looks like it can be removed, but the only way that I can see how is to un-crimp the top cap first.

Am I crazy to try this?

    Thank you,

    Chris

I have a stand alone base just exactly like this. However, mine has an edison base, at the top, and I have screwed a vintage dimmer and lamp into it. One or the other could have been modified, or your heating element simply screws out. Mine has the same switch, I have never used this (no cord, and no bottom plate) but I do not know if it is a mometary or a throw switch. Still a nice display base for a figural bulb.
