Fort F. E. Warren started out as Fort D. A. Russell in 1867. In January 1930, the post was renamed Fort F. E. Warren, after Francis Emroy Warren. Then in October 1949 the Fort was transferred to the newly created United States Air Force and became F. E. Warren Air Force Base, which is still active today.

Regarding the patch, my question is this: Does anyone know when the Army installations started wearing the patches on their uniforms? The only other Army Department patch I have seen that is older is one from Fort Logan, Colorado. The post was active from October 1887 until May 1946.
