While writing for the comic series 'Amazing Stories' back in 1962, now-famous cartoonist Stan Lee thought up a new character, originally thought too scary for some readers. 'The Amazing Spiderman' Issue #1 hit shelves in early 1963, and the radioactive hero was an immediate hit. As with most comics, original copies of early Spider-Man issues are valued most highly, especially those drawn by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko. Note that reprints of these early issues have been made.
