      US, best I can figure is this is from a great aunt (found in my moms estate in a hope chest) who was a teacher in Oregon around the turn on the century, I've found a copy of her lesson plans

      I was always taught these were called crazy quilts.

      It is called a a "Crazy Quilt " and they were being made back to late 1800's to present . Can date many times by fabric used . These were often scraps of fabric found to make the often old clothes ect. I have seen some with elaborate fabrics and embroidery on edges of patches and on velvet patches quite beautifully done . A Great heirloom you have

      Interesting that it's a crazy quilt that includes the yarn ties. My grandma used the knotted yarn technique on her patchwork quilts, too, to hold the batting in place.
