I just recently acquired this antique china doll from an online auction and I was wondering if anybody knew what she is? I cannot find other china dolls with red hair and I don't know a whole lot about china dolls (yet). She is 22" tall and does not appear to be a reproduction. Anyone have any information that could help me out?

Also, does anyone have any good recommendations for value and identification books on china dolls?

    :)

Hi your China doll is a Reproduction" flat top china" Was made in a doll making ceramic studio . Popular to do from 1970's -1990's . The person who painted her should have put their name on her back as it is required but sometimes was not done . And Yes 100 % repro . You need to study the art of the painting of these dolls and the quality of glazed bisque vs porcelain glazed like yours . There are many books on China dolls . If your going to collect them you need to go to doll shows and or museum and see what they look like in person a book will help you ID year made and China dolls are named and dated by Hairdo's . Your has a flat top on head and hair puffed out on side I have a original I will post the link and look at face painting close .

Thank you valentinto I hope to help so many that buy these repro's and many are sold by antique shops as antiques which really irritates me never trust a general antique dealer ! know what your buying by your own knowledge or a reputable doll dealer which does nothing but sell dolls like the Store I worked at for 25 yrs that was their specialty and there are so many repro's out some good enough to need a expert eye to determine . But ones like this is a jump out repro . I wonder how it was advertised ? Poster what did they say in description ?

Thanks Manikin! I wasn't sure, but I knew someone would surely know on here. I paid next to nothing for her through an auction and now I know what I'm dealing with-- so, now I can sell her and not worry about whether she is rare or not. :)

The book Blink says note the first word that pops into your head when you see antiques. Sadly mine was "fake." Another that might pop into your head is "fresh." Trust your gut and your research.
