Time has dictated that some of these exercises be updated. Do they still teach semafore ? In the last picture...don't be looking for Maggie's drawers !

They didn't teach it in boot 30 years ago. The Signalmen still had to learn it. They also had to learn how to "shoot the stars." I am glad we didn't have to depend on them for getting us to the right place.
Maggie didn't make it to the range with me ... but I can't say that for the rest of my company. More than 2/3rds had never fired a gun before boot.
Interesting twist. Pictures one and three are both available on ebay. However, while the pictures are identical, the writing attributes them to Hampton Roads, VA !
So cool, I have photographs of my grandfather almost identical to the third postcard.
Sold to sailors to send home, generic photo with different typing to sell at different locations. Likely you can find one for San Diego as well.
