When cleaning out my shed, I got down an old level I had stuck up years ago. No idea how I came by it. On close look, it appears to be brass or copper. No brand apparent, just the star cutouts. Bubbles are still there. I am reluctant to do any cleaning that might mess it up. Anybody have any info on it?

Formed sheet metal levels with the distinctive star cutouts appear to be Acme levels, some produced under the Diamond Edge brand of Shapleigh Hardware. Many sizes and bubble configurations. Some (like yours) also have an inclinometer.

Do NOT do anything except clean with soapy water. That patina is what makes it worth something!
