The egg is ceramic and has very thick walls and no markings anywhere... You can tell it is hand painted and stands about 5 inches high. I got this at an estate sale about 4 years ago and absolutely love it.

Yours is most likely a Chinese reproduction.

      Here's more info:

Why do you say that? That I had a different type of glaze than mine, the ceramic on the bottom looked completely different, and hers had an English worded marking on it...http://gotheborg.com/marks/satsuma.shtml
      http://www.satsuma-pottery.com/is-my-satsuma-pottery-genuine

According to these two sites, mine sounds like it could be real. It has a dull sound when I tap on it and on that one website the "Zen" family didn't mark their pottery.

It could be but, again, it might not be. You would need to take it to someone who is an expert in Oriental porcelain and have it examined. The Chinese are superior in reproducing antique porcelain pieces which have fooled even the experts.

That's why I put it on here. because I was hoping that somebody here knows about Oriental porcelain well enough that one might be able to give me better understanding before I spend a lot of money for someone to tell me that it's fake... thank you
