I found this pin (?) many years ago, digging in my northern Ohio garden, and have wondered ever since what it is. It is of soft metal, approx. 3/4" wide x 1" high.
Sorry the image is blurry around the edges, but I just put it in my scanner.
The pin appears to me to be French, w/ a single fleur-de-lis in the center, flanked by an animal on each side (bears, dogs, lions ??). A crown is at the top. The attaching device, if there was one, is missing from the reverse. A protruding base of some sort remains.
I'm just curious to know if anyone has a clue as to the pin's identity.
    Thanks for any reply!

I collect Fleur de lis (I live in New Orleans). I love it. Quite lovely. Can you tell what the metal composition is?

      Hi,
Thanks for your response. It's difficult (for me) to tell...it's soft & pliable, so perhaps it's brass but quite crusty after being in the ground for probably many yrs. I want to think it's from a French military uniform, w/ the crown implying imperial France (18th cent.?), but that's only me wildly speculating.
