Got this in an auction where they called it a unique bunt cake pot. I know it's not that (for one, the cake would never come out due to the undercut around the edge)
I feel like I have seen one of these before but I have no idea how to search as the basic words like crockery, pottery, tureen, etc, just bring up the mainstream stuff. Pretty sure it's a more modern piece and it has a little staining inside that makes me think it was actually used for something.
Any insight on what this is for would be very much appreciated.

I’m wondering if it’s for making a steak pie, like you get in the UK?. I make my “stew” filling in the oven in a casserole like that, then when the meat is done, I take off the lid, put my ceramic pie bird in the middle and put puff or flaky pastry on top, cut a vent where the bird is to release steam and return to the hot oven to cook the pastry.
Yours already has a built in “pie bird” ?
I have discovered that this is a Yunnan steam pot. It is certainly not an authentic pot made in the Yunnan province in China but there are some assorted small companies in the US that make these. They are used for a few particular dishes in that region of China but they can apparently be used for any number of dishes that can be cooked by seaming.
