Bought this at an estate sale. Nothing else like it on the internet. Doesn't look overly well-made and the designs are hand painted to look like wood inlays on similar style Pembroke tables.
Anyone have any ideas on my mystery item?
Try researching it as a fold out rather than a flip out. They come in all kinds of configurations. Some are make up tables with a mirror inside that folds down into the table. some like this one were used as a writing desk others would fold open and had something like a checker board and you could play board games like monopoly on them.
I wondered if it might have been a game table. I did research "fold out", "side-hinged", "book fold/flip", "fold/flip leaf", all to no avail. It's certainly a interesting piece. Thank you for your comment!! Much appreciated!
It looks like a not so well done reproduction of a Norquist game table. They used the same type top and legs. An actual Norquist would command a few thousand this one would struggle to get $50.
