The bus broke down
halfway up the road to Pikes Peak.
Lucky it was behind us
and held off any further traffic for over an hour.
We pulled over and climbed on the rocks.
There was the sound of an eagle's wings
cutting and whistling through the air
on his way down the hill.
Looking down at the sparse popcorn clouds
pulling shadows across the lower hills
for many, many miles.
About this time of year in 1979.
I hope there isn’t too much in the way
So I can see the Rockies
